Would-be illegal immigrants hid in a luxury Bentley

Four Iraqi illegal immigrants who attempted to smuggle themselves into the UK in a Bentley were stopped by UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers based in France.

The four stowed in a GT model being transported back from the Nürburgring race track in Germany to the Bentley factory in Crewe.

They were caught before the vehicle carrying the luxury car could board a ferry to Dover.

UKBA officers spotted high readings of carbon dioxide from a German-registered lorry and opened it up to find a group of four illegal immigrants sitting in a Bentley.

They were handed over to the French authorities.

As well as visual checks of vehicles, officers also use heartbeat detectors, carbon dioxide machines and sniffer dogs to find stowaways.
