A man arriving on a cross channel ferry has been charged with attempting to smuggle £200,000 of cocaine into the country, the UK Border Agency said.

The man from Hamilton, Leicester was stopped by customs officers at Dover docks on Friday evening after he arrived on a ferry from Calais.

Officers discovered five packages containing approximately 5kg of the drug hidden in the rear quarter panels of an Audi car.

Further inquiries led to £3,500 in cash being recovered from a house in Leicester.
