Village funeral for 'Mummy's princess'

The the funeral of the little girl from Hawkinge who died in a tragic accident on New Year's Day will take place next week.

Paige Brown's funeral will be held at St. Luke's Church in Hawkinge on Friday 18 January.

Her parents, Phil Brown and Lorraine Ford, found her on New Year's Day hanging by her hair band from a hammock she used to store her stuffed animals.

They have asked mourners to wear something pink if possible, as this was their daughter's favourite colour.

The Round Table will be filling the church in Canterbury Road with pink flowers with help from the Folkestone Flower Arranging Society on behalf of the children at The Churchill School.

The wreath from the school will be in the form of a flowering cherry tree in a large container that children will be able to attach their messages upon.

Speaking to the Daily Mail Lorraine Ford admits she still reads her daughter a bedtime story and “tucks her in” days after the four-year-old accidentally hanged herself – to pretend she's still alive.

She says continuing old routines is the only way she can keep going after her daughter died on New Year's Day.

Miss Ford said quietly: “I do everything we always did. I speak to her just like she's here.

“I tell her, like I used to every day, 'You're always Mummy's princess.' When I give her brother sweets I give them to Paige too.

“I have to believe she is still here because if I didn't I don't know what I'd do.”
