Essential safety work on a busy major road will begin tomorrow (6 January)  and is expected to last for three weeks.

The work will replace the existing manhole covers on the East Cliff Bridge on the A2 near the port of Dover and strengthen the road surface to improve the quality of the road for drivers.

For the safety of road users and the workforce there will be a 24 hour lane one closure on the London bound carriageway across the bridge for the duration of the works.

Bala Vishnubala, project manager for the Highways Agency said: "These essential works to East Cliff Bridge are part of our ongoing commitment to help you make your journeys safely and reliably.

"We thank drivers for their patience whilst we are doing the work and we ask them to allow extra time for their journeys and to drive safely through the roadworks."
