Hawkinge four-year-old dies in tragic hanging accident

A four-year-old girl from Hawkinge accidentally hanged herself as she played with her teddy bears in her bedroom.

Little Paige Brown was found with a hair band wrapped round her neck after she played alone in her room on New Year’s Day.

Parents Phil Brown and Lorraine Ford, 26, discovered Paige with the hair band around her neck, attached to a hammock where she kept her teddy bears.

Paige’s parents desperately tried to resuscitate her but failed and the child was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

The couple who also have a two-year-old son, have been left devastated by her death which police are describing as a tragic accident.

"We were a perfect family," said Paige's mother, Lorraine Ford.

"You couldn't want for a happier child.

"I was saying before Christmas there is nothing else I want - now our perfect life is destroyed."

Paige was a pupil in Ruby class at The Churchill School.  Head teacher Jennie Carter has written to all parents of pupils at the school.

She wrote: "Her parents are very proud of her and will wish to celebrate her life. We are very proud of her and we need to help keep her memory alive and support Philip and Loraine in this way."

Kent Police said the death was being treated as an accident and an inquest would be held next week.
