Local police warn of beggars and pedlars in the area

Neighbourhood Watch reports of a number of Polish picture sellers and beggars in the area.

One group is targeting the rural villages trying to sell pictures. To be able to do this legally they require a Pedlars certificate and none of them hold them.

Those that are begging are saying that they have throat cancer or liver cancer or that they are a student and need money. Again, begging is a crime.

Please do not aid these sellers and beggars.

The Police ask that should they call at your property you inform them on 01303 850055.

Please remember when you go to the door, only open it if you have the chain in place.

Some elderly and vulnerable people have been quite unnerved by these visits this week. Please do look out for these neighbours and don't forget about the Nominated Neighbour scheme.

Are their pictures any good, I wouldn't mind seeing them. Folkestone is trying to attract artists to help with it's revival.

And have they been checked by a doctor to see if the have cancer?

Is it not a crime to not care for the sick?

Extract from article in the Mirror

"In nearby Covent Garden, a Polish girl empties her pockets saying: "I'd give you more if I had any. But why do you sit? Don't you have a job?"

She's the only person all day who asks what brings me on to the streets... apart from the authorities.

A fellow beggar tells me: "They treat us like criminals. They'll force you to move and don't care where you go. But a lot of us on the streets have nowhere else to go."
