Police officers and staff in the south Kent area have raised £1300 for Pilgrims Hospice in Ashford following a range of fundraising activities during 2007.

Staff who run the social club organised a number of quiz nights, an Easter egg raffle, a Karaoke night, a music night with local band 'The Neets' and a grand Christmas prize draw.

Some of the proceeds from the coffee machine in the staff lounge were also put towards the fundraising effort.

The club decided to raise money for Pilgrims Hospice as 2007 was their silver anniversary and many police officers and staff know someone who has been cared for there.

Fundraising is also very important for Pilgrims as they need to raise more than £7 million each year to keep running their three hospices in Ashford, Canterbury and Thanet.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Steve Harris, who is chair of the SE Kent Police Social Club said: "I am delighted to present this cheque to Pilgrims Hospice. They provide an excellent free service for many local people in need of specialist care and I know that every penny will be put to good use in helping them continue their important work."

"I am also proud of the efforts of police officers and staff from south Kent who have supported the fundraising activities and managed to raise a good amount for this and other worthy causes in the past year including Children in Need, Comic Relief, Jeans for Genes and Dave Lees' Happy Holidays."
