A youth shelter installed last week is to be officially opened in Lympne on Saturday (26 January).

The building near to the village hall is all down to the hard work and dedication of the Lympne Village Hall Committee.

The present committee have been together for 2 years and for the last year have organised many fundraising events including Boot Fairs and Quiz evenings, a Grand Summer and Christmas Fayre and New Year's Eve party.

Despite this they still needed help to raise more cash for the shelter and were grateful that the Kent Community Foundation and the Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation were able to help with a grant.

The organisers are hoping Michael Howard MP will be able to attend the opening ceremony on Saturday 26th January at 11.00am.

Committee member, Sarah Ackroyd said: "This is an important shelter for all our young people of the village; somewhere for them to go and meet friends. It has a multipurpose use as a waiting area for parents of children attending sports and activities taking place at the village hall and also for local football groups who use the hall and the playing field every week. The Village Hall is the heart of Lympne and is used by all different ages we hope people will be able to put the shelter to good use.

"The committee would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has been involved and most importantly the Kent Community Foundation and the Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation for their funding."

UPDATE:- The official opening has been postponed and a new date will be announced shortly.
