A 25-year-old Folkestone man has died and three people were injured after a car left the road, demolished a lamppost and hit a tree near the town on Saturday evening (19 January).

A silver Peugeot 306 crashed at Pond Hill Road, Cheriton, and the driver was taken to the William Harvey Hospital but later died.

The front seat passenger, a 23-year-old Folkestone man, suffered whiplash and was taken to the same hospital.

The two women, a 20 year-old and an 18 year-old, who were in the back seat, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and were also taken to William Harvey Hospital.

The road was closed for about four hours while Kent Police's serious crash team attended the scene.

Police are asking witnesses to contact the crash witness appeal line on 01622 798583.
