A range of activities and displays for all the family can be experienced at Hawkinge Community Centre on Saturday 26th January, between 11am to 2pm, as part of a packed Community Safety Day.

The event has been organised by the Hawkinge Kent County Council Community Warden and will include advice and demonstrations about a huge range of topics from smoke alarms, home security, healthy lifestyles and recycling.

The exhibitors include, the Hawkinge Partnership, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Kent County Councils Community Wardens, Kent Police, Neighbourhood Watch, Homesafe, Lifeline, Help the Aged and Shepway District Council. The event has been funded by The Hawkinge Partnership and Hawkinge Parish Council.

Residents can bring along their laptops, mobile phones, MP3 players, iPods, games consoles and bicycles/scooters and Kent police will be delighted to security mark them at no cost.

There will be plenty of games and competitions for children and young people.

An opportunity to undergo a very basic health check will be available, and even some practical help in giving up smoking. St John Ambulance will be giving demonstrations on how to deal with incidents and accidents around the home.

Tanya Clark the Hawkinge Community Warden said “Hawkinge is already a very safe place but creating a safer place to live is one of the top three priorities for Hawkinge residents. We hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to come and join us at some point during the day for this free event”.
