Shepway police are hunting an armed robber who threatened a shop assistant  in Cheriton with a 10-inch kitchen knife.

The offender entered Shorncliffe Post Office in Royal Military Avenue, Cheriton at around 8.45am on Sunday 13 January and shouted at the assistant to open the till.

The shop assistant, in her early twenties, opened the till and the offender took £50 cash and left the shop.

Police arrived within minutes and conducted an extensive area search to trace the offender but nobody matching the description of the offender was seen.

The offender is described as, white in his 30s to 40s and 5ft 10in tall with a rough moustache. He was wearing a navy blue woollen hat and a dark jacket that went to just below the waist.

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Matthew Avery at Folkestone Police Station on 01303 850055 or Kent Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
