Lydd airport's crunch planning meeting postponed

The long awaited meeting of Shepway District Council to decide whether Lydd airport can expand has been postponed.

The council was to have debated plans to build a new terminal and extend the runway at Lydd Airport, on 30 January but planning officers have said they do not have enough information.

Shepway chief executive Alistair Stewart has said more information is needed on ecological and noise issues.

The meeting will be rescheduled for a date in two to six months' time.

"This is one of the biggest planning applications this council has ever had to determine and it is one that has wide-ranging implications," said Mr Stewart.

"A lot of complex and technical details have to be considered in applications of this scale.

"We will be talking to the applicants about the additional information we need, mainly concerning ecological and noise issues."

Just about sums up Shepway District Council.

How long do they need for an application for a project that is in their own Local Plan, or are they `afraid` to make the decision?

If I were the Applicant I would put an end to this nonsense and ask the Government Office of the South Eat to determine it under non-determination by a Planning Authority within a certain time frame as Jimmy Godden did.

I've seen a web-site where some people are suggesting that the delay is because they are waiting to find out if Dungeness will be named as a site for one of the new nuclear power stations. Can a Council keep delaying making a decision on a planning application ad infinitum? It doesn't seem very fair on people who have spent good money preparing their application and may rely on a decision for the development of their business.
