All four men were charged with conspiracy to burgle and conspiracy to commit criminal damage, after attacks on cash machines in the Beltinge, Sandwich, Hawkinge and Littlebourne areas.

The four men were caught by police attacking a cash machine in New Romney, Kent, in February last year.

Hizekiah Roberts was given 12 years in jail for several charges relating to cash machine theft.

Darren Scott Lee and Anthony Cornelius Lee both received seven years 10 months and John Panhandle-Smith got eight years and five months.

When police moved in to arrest the men on 28 February 2007, Roberts and another of the men tried to escape in a car, knocking over two police officers in the process. One officer suffered a broken leg and the other a broken ankle.

They were also charged with burglary and criminal damage at New Romney.

Roberts was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist arrest.

All four men pleaded guilty to all four counts.
