Youngsters from Hawkinge and Boulogne are getting together to produce a film for the Boulogne Video Festival.

The film making is taking place as part of the Youth On Board project organised by BOSCO (the Boulogne and Shepway Co-operation Association). Part of BOSCO's role is to promote and secure funding for cross-channel projects.

The theme of the film will centre on Folkestone and Boulogne, their people and cultures. This will include interviews with people from both sides of the Channel and working with older people to draw on their experiences and knowledge of the local areas.

As part of the project, the young people - who all aged between 14 and 18 - will be taught skills in film-making, editing, storyboard writing and installing sound.

Seven young people and two youth workers from Hawkinge have already spent a few days in Boulogne to start the joint filming and the French youngsters will come to Shepway to film in early September. In total, 22 days of filming are planned. The editing will take place mainly in Boulogne at the Espace Maes Youth Club where there are video and editing facilities.

The joint team will work on getting the first rushes for the Boulogne Video Festival in September.

The project is aimed mainly at young people who have been excluded from school.
