Thousands of residents and visitors flocked to the fourth Hawkinge fun day today (8 September).

Visitors to the fun day

It kicked off at 11.00am when Hawkinge Harry, a 12ft high giant created by local people and Strange Cargo arts company, lead a procession around the community green in Heron Forstal Avenue.

The Hawkinge Community Event Group, who organised the day were confident it was going to be the best yet.

The idea behind the fun day was to bring residents of the growing village together and celebrate the different facets of village life.

There were a range of events, displays and exhibitions including inflatable rides, live bands, dancing, demonstrations and plenty of food and drink stalls.

Hawkinge has more than 2,500 homes and a population of nearly 7,000.
