Opposition to new road layout

It has been brought to my attention that some residents, including a number in Aerodrome Road have 'reservations' about traffic being routed passed their front doors when the new road layout comes into force.

My understanding, after speaking with Kent Highways representatives is that the traffic from Canterbury which persists in travelling through the centre of the village will be 'guided' along Aerodrome Road and back onto the Spitfire Way link road.

Kent Highways are of the opinion that this will have the result of persuading through traffic to use the new link road.

Whether my understanding is correct will as with all council/government matters will be in the small print, but that is the way it was explained to me.

I know that if I used the original through route just once, and realised it now guided me back to the link road, then I wouldn't bother using the old road again.

There is little point being held up manoeuvring along  Aerodrome Road with  its cars parked on either side,  when you  know there is a perfectly usable new Folkestone to Canterbury road which takes though traffic away from the centre of the village.

Please let me know your views.

TRANSPORT: Reducing Speeding

Many villagers have complained about drivers exceeding the speed limit through the village. Looking at the consultation document the main reason put forward for the changed priority at Aerodrome Road is to slow down traffic from Folkestone and Dover. This in addition to redirecting traffic from Canterbury to the new Spitfire Way link should result in less traffic passing through the village.

The main aims of the scheme are to both reduce and slow down traffic passing throught the village, which seems to me to be a good thing.

I am not surprised that the people living in Aerodrome Road unhappy with this scheme. I dont see how this will deal with speeding traffic on Caterbury Road, surely the speed camera deals with the problem at its current location.

It would make more sense to alter the new roundabout at the junction of Canterbury Road & Spitfire Way (north end) to be the same as proposed at the Areodrome/Canterbury Road junction, giving priority to the north/south Spitfire Way, Canterbury Road bypass.

Speeding traffic is a real problem along the entire length of the A260, especially when mixed with the heavy goods vehicles. This an issue which needs to be addressed, for the safety of our children, our elderly, who sometimes take their lives in their hands trying cross this road.

One pedestrian crossing on an 'A' road like the 260, running through several villages is not enough.

Come on KCC lets take this oppotunity to review openly the safety issues on this road, once & for all, not just the bit that runs through Hawkinge
