Labour have held onto three seats which were up for grabs in local council by-elections held in Kent yesterday (27 September).

The Labour Party is still enjoying a poll lead, since Gordon Brown took over as prime minister in June although on Kent County Council, there was a 5.5% swing from Labour to Conservatives.

Labour held the wards of Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory on the Town Council and on Dover District Council, in Aylesham, the party gained 11.6% of the vote.

Despite widespread election speculation during Labour's conference this week, Mr Brown has repeatedly refused to reveal his intentions for the date of the next general election.
