Hawkinge residents are being offered membership of the new Hawkinge Community Centre Charity which was registered on 9 August 2007.

The Community Centre will be a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity with a paid for membership. It is expected to take over from the presently operating charity when all the legal matters are completed.

They have produced application forms prior to the switch.

Membership is £5 a year and the form lists the benefits as having:

"A vote at the Annual General meeting and Extraordinary General Meetings"

"The opportunity to become a trustee of the Community Centre, thus playing a key role in the development of the Centre"

The application form goes on to say : "The membership will be restricted to people over 18 who live in or have a proven close connection with Hawkinge, who agree to have the best interests of the Community Centre in mind when voting at AGM's.

"Members must also agree to be pro-actively involved in the furtherance of the charity's objectives."
