The no entry signs which in effect replaced the missing Webster Way bollard, have been quietly removed by workmen today.

Contractors for Kent Highways arrived early this morning (17 September) to take away the controversial road signs which finally allowed the traffic to run legally between Canterbury Road and The Street in Hawkinge.

Parish council Chairman David Callahan told the Gazette he was not informed the signs were to be removed today, although he was aware they were to go eventually.

The parish council want to see traffic calming measures and a 20mph speed limit on the road.

Village bobby PC Tevor Moody was also not told they were being removed, although he said he had been trying for months to get Kent Highways to take down the signs which had no traffic enforcement order placed upon them.

"I am very pleased to see them go", said PC Moody.
