Through the popular website pages of the Hawkinge Gazette, may we be permitted to inform your readers of yet another fundraising success!

It seems to us extraordinary that the double lift, including the step-lift carriages, on August Bank Holiday Monday 1890, attracted 8,444 passengers. A third of the ordinary population of Folkestone used these facilities, then bringing in nearly £40.00 to the revenue of the company.

August Bank Holiday Monday 2007, the soul-surviving step-lift carriage of 1890, awaiting renovation, is indirectly still raising capital. Amazing!

Mr Michael Edson, an official of the Farmers’ Market, held this Bank Holiday Monday, most gracefully gave to the 1890 Leas Lift Carriage Restoration project team a market stall absolutely free. What encouragement to continue in our determination to achieve our goal. THANK YOU!

Our hearts and minds will not be sidetracked by any other issue, relating to this carriage project, which may raise its ugly head from time to time.

To all the day-trippers and general public of Folkestone who contributed to this worthwhile cause in order to save the town’s heirloom (i.e., this carriage of a great age), our sincere thanks for raising a total sum of £75.00.
