Radio appeal as last minute hitch hits Hawkinge fun day

Hawkinge Fun Day organisers are desperately searching for a band to lead the procession headed by Hawkinge Harry, the village giant on Saturday (8 September)

The popular Sandwich based Brew Ha Ha band who have performed at previous fun days have split up and band leader Bob Martin reluctantly cancelled their booking for the village fun day due to be held next week.

Mr Martin said the sudden split in the band's ranks meant that only half the musicians led the procession at the Sandwich Medieval Fair at the weekend and there was no way he could avoid cancelling their booking at Hawkinge.

Time is running out and Hawkinge Events Group member Jackie Ide, who was told of the cancellation last week is busy searching for a replacement. She has already made a live appeal on BBC Radio Kent for a band to play at the village's biggest event of the year.

As yet there is no-one to step in as a replacement but Jackie is hopeful that one will be found before the big day.

Editor's note: If you can help please telephone Jackie or Martin 01303 891035
