Overnight storms cause flooding and travel disruption

Violent storms which hit East Kent during the night (21 August) caused flooding and disruption to transport links.

Many areas of Folkestone, Hawkinge and Hythe have reported roads flooded. Cars have broken down at the Lidl roundabout on Haven Drive which is under a foot of water.

A lightning strike to a signal box in Folkestone knocked out power to points on the railway line from Ramsgate to Ashford.

The route which runs through Deal, Dover and the Folkestone is gradually getting back to normal, but trains travelling to Thanet are still badly disrupted and a bus service is operating in the Shepherdswell area.
