Peter Smith guilty of benefit fraud

A Hawkinge parish councillor and former chairman of Shepway District Council, has been found guilty of benefit fraud.

Peter Smith had denied two charges of making false claims for housing and council tax benefit which he knew to be false between June and September last year, but was convicted by Folkestone magistrates last week.

He is due to appear before the bench for sentencing on 20 August.
