A youth project for young people between 12 and 19 has been opened at Folkestone Harbour.

On Friday evening the Folkestone Youth  Project threw open the doors of an old freight building donated by former Saga boss Roger De Haan. There is also adjacent open space for the young people to enjoy learning and leisure opportunities.

Hawkinge district councillor David Godfrey said: "What is particularly impressive about this project is the way in which Go Folkestone, the business community, town and district councils and other volunteers have worked together in a very short time to convert the old disused building into serviceable use.

"A great example of the community working together."

Philip Carter, one of the driving forces behind the project, said: "It may be only temporary until overall plans for the harbour area come into fruition but it has shown what partnership working can achieve."
