Action group huffing and puffing over giant turbine plans

The Langdon Action Group (Lag) hopes to topple proposals for a wind farm off Archers Court Road near Dover.

The group is said to be furious with the district council for only telling villagers about the proposals last month, even though the applicants, Ecotricity had approached the council with their intentions in January.

The plans are to build five 120 metre high wind turbines in East Langdon.

Lag has received support from the parish council which is also opposed to the wind farm.

A resident claimed that the wind turbines are bigger than Big Ben's clock tower.

A Dover District Council spokesman stressed that no planning application had been received on a proposed wind farm as yet and discussions were around what is called a 'scoping request'.

Mike Dawson, the Head of Development and Public Protection at Dover District Council has said in a statement: "We have been in contact with the Parish Council and I have written personally to offer apologies, which have already been accepted, that they were not consulted on this scoping request.

"I have given reassurances that no decisions have been taken and confirmed they will be given extended opportunities to comment.

"The scoping process is a pre-application technical process only, which gathers factual information for the content of the environmental assessment to accompany a planning application. This does not include any consideration of third party views or the merits of a scheme.

"The scheme will receive full consideration and all views will be taken fully into account as and when any planning application is received."
