Folkestone Town Council is to spend £3,000 on re-painting it's fifty or so litter bins; at a cost of £60 each.

Lib Dem councillor Emily Sanger was backed by the full Council last week which has agreed funding for repainting the Folkestone Town Centre and bins on main roads.

The litter bins are owned and should be maintained by Shepway District Council, but many are in a poor state of decoration, and Shepway have no budget to fund repainting. Subject to agreeing certain conditions, Shepway Cabinet member for the Environment Rory Love has agreed that Folkestone can step in and get the bins painted.

Folkestone Town Councillor and Finance Committee Chair Tim Prater said: "Folkestone has waited long enough - many of these street bins are a real eye-sore, and drag the whole look of the town down. By getting them painted, it should give a real boost to the look of the town.

"I'm pleased with the co-operation we have received from Shepway Cabinet member Rory Love"
