Councillors agree that Webster Way bollard should be removed

Around 60 villagers attended the so called 'Bollards' meeting of the parish council tonight and the village hall rang with the sound of applause as the councillors joined together in agreeing to ensure the bollard in Webster Way is removed.

The councillors also agreed to press for a 20mph speed limit and right of way signs on the road which many fear will become a rat run once the bollard is removed

Hawkinge Parish Council also voted to closely watch how the 106 monies were to be spent and they also supported the idea that the 'Buffer Strip' at the rear of DeHavilland Close should be opened as a proper footpath.

Cllr Tony Hutt who called the meeting said he was "really chuffed" that the parish council now seemed to be working as one.

He said that he thanked District Councillor David Godfrey for calling his meeting as it had brought the people together to sit down and talk. "I am more than pleased" he said.

The parish council will now take their united views to Cllr Godfrey's meeting with the Hawkinge Partnership and Shepway officers tomorrow (25 July)

Webster Way Bollards

Dear Ed,

Since it appears that all agree, at the latest PC meeting on the subject anyway, that the traffic calming measures in Webster Way should be retained once the bollards are removed, with the reason (reasonable enough) that the route might become a "rat run".

Should some attention be now given to the installation of traffic calming measures in The Street, which for a long time now has been a rat run, with the associated problems of speeding vehicles, noise and pollution that go hand in hand with "rat runs"?
