Hawkinge homes flooded in violent storms

Violent storms and torrential rain this evening (19 June) have led to roads and homes being flooded in parts of Hawkinge and Folkestone.

A Shepway council emergency line was inundated with calls about "major storms and flooding in all areas", particularly Folkestone and Hawkinge.

A council spokeswoman said there were no reports of homes being evacuated, but she added the flooding appeared to have caused sewage leaks.

Parts of Hawkinge suffered power cuts as the electrical storm raged.

Park Farm Road in Folkestone was closed and a stretch of Aerodrome Road in Hawkinge was flooded.

Hawkinge resident John Heasman said he had water pouring down his drive towards his house in Canterbury Road.

Reports also came in of storms and heavy rain in Dover and New Romney. The basement of a home in East Street Dover was flooded as drains failed to cope with the deluge.
