Former Gillingham player manager Andy Hessenthaler has today (29 May) been appointed manager of Ryman First Division South side Dover Athletic.

After mixed fortunes earlier in the season, the Whites finished strongly and narrowly missed promotion.

41-year-old Hessenthaler, who has played for Watford has just finished playing professionally for Division Two side Barnet. He was keen to return to a coaching role and has not ruled out the possibility of putting on his boots for the Dover side.

Club chairman Jim Parmenter told the Whites website: "Getting Andy to manage our side is something of a coup."
