Why did the Hawkinge election turnout drop by 10%?

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

I see that the turnout at Hawkinge for the Shepway District Council elections went down from 44.3% in 2003 to 35.2% in 2007.

I also noticed that turnout for the whole of Shepway in the local elections went up from 39.5% in 2003 to 40.1% in 2007 which makes the reduction in the Hawkinge turnout seem even more odd.

It would be interested to know why this happened.

Keith Griffiths

Editor's note:  Has anyone a reason why there was a near 10% drop in the numbers turning out to vote?
