Divers have taken two days to free a grey seal weighing nearly a quarter of a ton from a water cooling pool at a nuclear power station.

The seal was discovered trapped in a tank of water at Dungeness Nuclear Power Station on Wednesday (23 May).

British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) volunteers built a floating pontoon to stop the seal from drowning before winching it out.

A special net was placed on the floating raft on Thursday to trap the seal and winch him to safety.

The 2.4m 250kg (551lb) seal was examined by a veterinary surgeon before being released, on Friday near to the Goodwin Sands off the coast of Deal, near to is a large Grey Seal colony.
