A Hawkinge 'local' has suffered damaged following Saturday's earthquake.

The tremor caused a crack in the bar at The Cat and Custard Pot in Paddlesworth, while along the coast in Dymchurch Doreen Marsh, licensee at the Ship Inn, has been forced to call in surveyors to check for damage to the walls.

She said: “It’s the first time I’ve woken up feeling the earth move and nobody was there!”

The magnitude 4.3 tremor forced The Thistle & Shamrock in Folkestone to close for the day. The pub dates back to 1526 and suffered internal and external damage to its walls.

Pubs were also rocked in nearby Cheriton, where the Morehall helped local residents by allowing them to heat food in the pub's kitchen before the power went down.
