A ferry passenger has died after being crushed to death by a heavy goods vehicle at the Port of Dover.

The passenger, a woman thought to be in her 40s, was found under the rear trailer of a lorry at berth six at the Eastern Docks, at 6.40pm yesterday (1 May).

She had suffered crush injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not yet been formally identified.

The woman  had been queuing in a car with her husband before the incident.

Acting Sgt Glyn Walker from Kent Police said: "I can confirm that the lady is believed to be a local resident.

An investigation has begun and police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
