I see that the old council's Chairman has elected himself again, how come?

Who gave him the right to a casting vote?

If this is how Hawkinge Parish Council is run then I believe the people will get a raw deal over the next few years. Why should anybody vote when people seem to do as they like and make rules to suit themselves?

The answer would be to have another meeting and this time a proper vote with no casting vote. How about it Mr Callahan?

Editor's note:- To put the record straight with regard to the 'casting' vote; since publishing the first draft of the story about the election of Chairman of Hawkinge Parish Council I have been advised that Cllr Callahan only used his 'casting' vote in the election for Vice Chairman. It was unnecessary to use a casting vote for his own election as Chairman, as the votes including his and Cllr Smith who was standing against him, were 4-3 in favour of Cllr Callahan and therefore did not need a 'casting' vote. Our story clearly shows that a casting vote was not used in the election for Chairman.
