Last week after the warm spell, I decided, as did many villagers, to tidy up the garden.

I was a good citizen and duly put the cut vegetation in my compost bin and the rest into my brown top wheelie bin.

Unfortunately there were still some cuttings littering the garden so I decided to put them into my empty green top bin. To make it obvious to the people collecting the waste I opened the lid half an hour before they were due to arrive so they could see that it was purely garden waste.

They refused to take it presumably because it was in the wrong type of bin; the one with the green top and not the brown top.

So much for Shepway's recycling policy which failed to support me when I was doing my bit to save the planet. Maybe they should look in their own backyard before preaching to us ratepayers.
