Re: This is no way to conduct a campaign - keep it clean chaps

I see on your site that we Shepway Independent candidates appear to have trodden on Jean James's toes by pointing out a few uncomfortable truths about decisions taken by her Conservative colleagues and the Lib-Dems at Shepway, along with the cost implications to us all.

We have simply just stuck to policies because we don't have to do anything else as `truth is stranger than fiction`.

No-one could surely make-up the fact during the last four years the councillors at Shepway have:

1. Attempted to hike council tax by 39%.

2. Close the public toilets. some of which remain shut).

3. Stopped cutting the grass.

4. Spent at least £1millon pounds on a botched recycling scheme, which included paying for trucks after they were known to be faulty.

5. Spent nearly another £1millon on 2 sports centres that never materialised.

6. Will have to spend this year at least £500,000 on re-introducing the direct work force 3 years after the present council dismantled it.

7. Has a borrowing requirement of £39 million, the highest of any district council in Kent.

I could go on, but then we might be accused again of `gutter campaigning`

Jean James, if the truth hurts then please accept our apologies, but we get very worked up about such things when annually our council tax increases by double the rate of inflation whilst we are forced to watch such bungling ineptitude with OUR money by those you say, 'try to do their best`.

If that's their best, then god help us all when they stop trying.
