War hero's secret revealed at funeral

Lost Friends & Relatives

Dear Editor,

I am enquiring about a local story from the early 1990s.

It concerns a local man who died having won the Victoria Cross during the second world war, without any member of his family knowing he had won the award until his funeral.

The man had also escaped from several prisoner of war camps.

Your help in finding more information would be much appreciated.

A Roxborough

If you can help, please Email vc@localrags.co.uk and the Gazette will forward all replies to Mr Roxborough.
