Folkestone Camera club

Recently our 5th Print competition of the season was held and judged by Dr Peter Lewis LRPS, a very experienced photographer with excellent tips on how we can improve our photography.

Peter is a member of St. Mary’s Bay Camera Club and a very competent judge, who had a very tiring evening judging 50 prints in all. With the increase in Digital workers, our print competition entries are increasing rapidly in number, which is why we have had to restrict entries to one per member in each of the open and portrait categories. Winners (points our of 20) of each section were as follows:-

OPEN SUBJECT

Novice:- ‘The Gate’ David Connell 20

(4 entries) ‘Sunset Gods Easter island’ Sue Peake 19

Intermediate:- ‘Evening Glow’ Monica Stringer 20

(14 entries) ‘Village Church Faroe Islands’ Charles White 19

Advanced:- ‘Weathered ‘ Frank Barraclough 20

(13 entries) ‘Affluent Society’ Keith Radford ARPS 19

‘Scottish Wild Cat’ Ian Stone CPAGB 19

PORTRAITS:-

Novice:- ‘Thank Heaven for little Girls’ Eve Wilson 20

(3 entries) ‘Lady of the Dance’ Derek Green 18

Intermediate:- ‘Pat’ Mike Connell 20

(7 entries) ‘Stella’ Monica Stringer 19

Advanced:- ‘Krishna’ Frank Barraclough 20

(9 entries) ‘Woman of Goa’ David Hughes 19

The above winning photographs, scoring 20 points, can be seen on our website at www.folkestonecameraclub.co.uk where we also have many Links to Photography related and other Shops.

We are now fast approaching the end of our season, with only two more meetings, an evening with John Abrook presenting ‘A Glimpse of the Orient’ on 30th April – John is a brilliant photographer so we know we will be in for a very good evening. There will be no meeting the following Monday due to the Bank Holiday, then on the 14th May our final Print Competition along with the St. Aubyn Cup Competition which is for Landscape Prints only, will be held,

These meetings and results will then lead to our Annual Dinner and Awards Night in May. Our A.G.M. will be held in July.

We are certainly doing well – within the club we now have, among our members, A.R.P.S., L.R.P.S., C.P.A.G.B., and D.P.A.G.B. award and competition winners of acceptances and prizes, we are without a doubt among the top clubs in Kent now, not only for our members personal achievements but also as a club. We have won several Battles recently, including, the Eurotunnel Trophy against Deal, Gateway (Dover), and Canterbury, (where we tied with Gateway (Dover)), at the Battle at Malling we tied 2nd with 11 clubs entering, and most recently won the Battle against Gateway by 6 points!

If you have ever come along to our club and, perhaps been disappointed with that particular evenings presentation, do please come along and ‘try us again’. We now have approximately 70 members and our club is very strong, as you can see from above. Unfortunately some potential new members come along and that actual evening may not be their ‘cup-of-tea’ so they don’t come again, which is a shame as we have so much to offer anyone who is interested in photography. Our programme covers many aspects of photography and we try to suit everyone's taste, age and ability Our motto is ‘We don’t Teach, But You Learn’. Our new season will commence in September, and the Programme will be on our website for viewing from late August.

Our meetings are held at the United Reform Community Hall, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone on Mondays at 7.45pm. New members are always welcome, if interested please phone Mrs Jenny Barraclough (Press Officer) 01303 245399, or e mail: jenny-bar@btconnect.com
