Re: Isn't your statement just pure negativity?

In response to the letter from 'Nance', yes, I quite agree with her that the people of Hawkinge need to know what I would do if elected to the parish council.

I have never stood for election before, and I am at the moment ploughing through a mountain of paperwork re. the Parish Council to try and establish just what the situation is. It would be pointless of me to start banging the drum about this and that before I have my facts right - we have all had quite enough of that kind of behaviour I feel!

The picture I am getting is that the parish council has been little more than a 'talking shop', with a couple of factions each trying to outdo the other in insults etc. Result? Nothing gets done at all, and the animosity between councillors is a disgrace.

Before I announce what particular issues I would like to tackle, I need to find out just how much the parish council can do about them, and that is difficult, because when you attend a meeting you are only allowed to ask a brief question or two, and then you are not allowed to discuss the answers!

If I am elected, I intend to try and inform the people of Hawkinge clearly and without political bias just what is going on.

A strong light needs to be shone on the workings of this parish council, and Tony Hutt and I will be there with our torches whether we are elected or not!
