Local dancers achieved four awards including a top award for Excellence when they competed against over seven hundred dancers from thirty States and twelve Countries in the USA .

The Franze Academy troupe who rehearse in Hawkinge Village Hall, achieved three superior and one awards of Excellence at the Dance Excellence in 2007 competition in the entertainment capital of the world, Hollywood.

Principal of the Academy Frances Metcalf said: "The talent was recognised by the Young Americans Californian Performing Arts company who offered two Kent girls Jessica Metcalfe and Sasha Buckingham the opportunity to go to America and study for two years.

"Jessica Metcalfe was also awarded a scholarship to return to Dance Excellence in 2008."
