Shepway golden sands beach chosen for national award

A Shepway beach will be flying the flag this summer after its golden sands secured national recognition as a top place to visit.

Dymchurch has been given the award and will be flying the distinctive yellow, blue and green flag after it met strict criteria laid down by ENCAMS, the environmental charity behind the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.

It is the first time Quality Beach Awards have been awarded and the holiday town on Romney Marsh is one of  just 71 across the country to have received the accolade.

The award shows visitors that the beach is properly managed, that there are facilities nearby like toilets and a car park, that the beach is regularly cleaned and bins emptied, dogs are banned from 1 May to 30 September and that results from water testing are displayed.
