The Hawkinge Gazette can reveal that the newly formed Shepway Independents party are to be featured in the popular  BBC TV programme, The Politics Show.

They have been asked to compile a video diary of their campaign in the run up to the Shepway Council elections. The diary will finish at the count in the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone on 3 May.

Youngest party candidate 23-year-old Rachael Bailey, and North Downs East Ward candidate Colin Tearle will be featured in the diary which is due to be screened on 6 May at midday on BBC1.

Politics Show presenter Jon Sopel describes the programme as politics taken seriously, not hysterically and focusing on the way politics touches real life.

There is a mix of outside broadcasts, authored reports from members of the public and organised groups. The show holds local politicians and councillors to account on the issues that matter and gives cameras to members of the public to get behind the scenes reports of local elections.
