Local police are warning jet skiers and kayakers to steer clear of the dolphin that has been regularly seen swimming off the coast between Folkestone and Sandgate.

Dave the dolphin has proved popular with tourists since arriving off the Shepway coast a year ago.

Following reports of water sports enthusiasts getting too close to the animal over the Easter weekend, the Police marine unit now plans to patrol the coast and officers have warned action will be taken against anyone harassing Dave.

Jet skis, boats and kayaks should keep a distance of at least 100 metres from the dolphin.

Police have asked anyone who sees the animal being harassed to report it to the authorities.
