Callous vandals who broke into a St John Ambulance vehicle stationed in Dover, but parked in a compound at Cheriton could have put lives at risk.

They attempted to hot-wire the ambulance, also stole keys and ripped out a satellite navigation and radio system causing thousands of pounds of damage.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said that lives could be put at risk as the vehicle is often used to cover for the Kent Ambulance Service.

The incident took place on Tuesday (20 March) at the charity's lock-up in Broomfield Road, Cheriton, where the vehicle was parked overnight.

Police are appealing for witnesses to call Folkestone Police on 01303 850055 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
