A 6ft square piece of wood and metal placed over a railway line has derailed a train and caused £6,000 damage.

The incident happened close to the Derville Road bridge in Greatstone when the train ran over a fence panel.

Neither the driver nor the passenger was injured but the train was badly damaged.

A police spokesman said that the train is regularly used by school children and members of the public.

Police are conducting house to house enquiries to investigate the accident which happened just before 9.00am last Tuesday (6 March)

If you can help, call PC Evans on 01233 896286.
