Folkestone Camera club - 13 March 2007

Folkestone Camera club

On Monday 12th March we had a showing of the London Salon slides with a very good commentary.

This years selection of pictures from their International Exhibition of Pictorial Photography, often controversial, always thought provoking. These slides (from prints) were from very experienced photographers from all over the Country, and the standard is very high. They gave us very constructive ideas on how we could improve our photography, some a little ‘way out’ for usual club photography, but certainly food for thought.

More success for two of our members:-

Ian Stone:-

The competition was in the Audley Travel magazine with the category ‘a photograph which encapsulated the spirit of a location’. The photograph was called 'Horse games in Krygyzstan'. The venue of the horse games was at Son-Kol lake, 3,300metres in height. The winning photo was chosen from 300 other entrants. Prize: 3 nights (flights and transfers included) at a 5 star hotel in St Petersburg, Russian Confederation.

Bob Brisley:-

Has received a F.I.A.P. acceptance in Australia for his Audio Visual presentation ‘New York, New York’, a F.I.A.P. acceptance in Florida for a Print ‘Antherium’ and also received the D.P.A.G.B. certificate.

Congratulations to both of you, this is a great achievement.

We are certainly doing well – within the club we now have among our members A.R.P.S., L.R.P.S., C.P.A.G.B.,and D.P.A.G.B. award winners, we are certainly among the top clubs in Kent now, not only for our members personal achievements but also as a club, having won several Battles recently. We have two more coming up – the Eurotunnel and Malling - so hopefully we will do well in those too.

If you have ever come along to our club and, perhaps been disappointed with that particular evenings presentation, do please come along and ‘try us again’. We now have approximately 70 members and our club is very strong, as you can see from above. Unfortunately some potential new members come along and that actual evening may not be their ‘cup-of-tea’ so they don’t come again, which is a shame as we have so much to offer anyone who is interested in photography. Our programme covers many aspects of photography to suit everyones taste.

On Monday 19th March DR PETER BRANDHAM will be presenting INDIA’S RAILWAYS OLD AND NEW

Our perennial favourite with superb photography and a great speaker passing on lots of hints and tips, and the following week 26th March SLIDE/PROJECTED IMAGE COMPETITION No.5

Judge: Geoff Chenery, which is where members enter and receive comments from the judge on how they can improve their image. On the 20th March we will be holding our monthly Practical Evening where members can practice with the clubs studio lighting and a more informal evening where we can exchange ideas and help.

Two outings are being arranged – one for Scotney Castle In April and Kew Gardens in May – these are usually a good day out, all of us with a common interest and amongst friends, we just hope the weather will be kind to us.

Our meetings are held at the St Georges Church, Audley Road, (on the corner of Shorncliffe Road opposite West Station) Folkestone on Mondays at 7.45pm. New members are always welcome, if interested please phone Mrs Jenny Barraclough (Press Officer) 01303 245399.
