Police are warning elderly residents after a suspected bogus caller visited homes of elderly people in Folkestone and Hythe claiming to be interested in buying books and antiques.

He called at homes in Clifton Road and Canterbury Road in Folkestone, Seabrook Road and Spanton Crescent in Hythe yesterday afternoon claiming he was setting up a book shop and was also interested in buying pictures.

He is also out and about today having already called at properties in Limes Road, Folkestone.

Nothing so far has been reported stolen, but the man has invited himself into homes and had a good look round in each room.

Police believe he is suspicious as he has only targeted vulnerable elderly residents and changes his story slightly each time.

He is described as a white male aged around 50, 6ft tall, well spoken, with balding ginger/grey hair and a round face.

Anyone with elderly relatives or neighbours is asked to ensure they know this man is in the area, and to make sure they don’t let anyone in their home.
