Hopefully it's not unlucky thirteen for the local dancers who will be flying the flag for the county when they compete against fifty states and thirty countries in the USA.

The Franze Academy troupe who rehearse in Hawkinge Village Hall, are hoping to retain their title of “World Jazz Champions” which they won in Hollywood in 2005.

The Academy students who are flying to Tinseltown are Jessica Metcalfe from Maidstone, Carrie Marsden from Dover,  Laura and Hayley Ballard from Hythe, Louise Collins, Kirsty Morford, Mary Wade, Emma Finch  from Folkestone, Sasha Buckingham from Hawkinge, Francesca, Leigh Sinden, Laura Warburton and Akylah Rodriguez from Ashford.

Principal of the Academy Frances Metcalf said: "The time has come and we have been working hard."

"Franze Academy has had an amazing time. Our Dance troupe, The Danz’ Follies, will be performing at the Miss England Finals in June and the Kent Dance Team will be performing at Wembley Arena in July. We have quite a calendar of events for 2007/8.

"We have placed students in renowned performing arts and dance colleges.

"Jessica Kennedy,  Laura Hewlett, Chloe Scott and Sasha Buckingham and  Louise Collins are all studying hard towards a professional career.

"Jessica Metcalfe, Kirsty Morford and Laura Warburton have all been offered places with the UK’s most prestigious Dance Colleges and  I am very proud of them all."
