Lorry parking action should not stop here

After a long campaign, work has finally started to end the lorry parking problem in Cheriton High Street in Folkestone.

The work should stop lorries parking in the slip road, which disturbed residents in Samian Crescent, Tiber Close and Roman Way.

Cheriton Lib Dem Councillor Peter Gane has welcomed the works. He said: "We've been pushing for these works for so long, it's great that Kent County Council are finally taking action. I hope that we are only a few weeks away from the end of years of noise, disruption and rubbish for local residents and road users along this stretch of Cheriton High Street."

Cheriton Town Councillor Tim Prater said: "This is a really welcome result."

"In order to make sure that the problem is actually dealt with and not moved to other sites there needs to be action to build a lorry parking facility by the M20. The Channel Corridor Partnership has started to work on this with a range of partners including local councils, and that work deserves support."

The works are due to take around 6 weeks and there will be temporary traffic restrictions and lights in place on the affected section of Cheriton High Street throughout that period.
