Two police officers suffered broken bones, during a failed ram-raid at a supermarket in New Romney last night(28 February).

The officers were hurt as they arrested three men, after a digger was driven into the wall of the Sainsbury's supermarket, in Dymchurch Road, New Romney, at 3.15am.

One officer has a broken leg and the other a broken ankle. Several police cars were also damaged during the raid.

The three men are in custody but it is reported police are looking for a fourth man.

During a visit to the scene today, Kent's Chief Constable, Mike Fuller, said it was too early to say whether the incident was linked to any other ram-raids in the county this year.

Last week it was announced that Kent Police, the banking industry and cash machine distributors were offering a £30,000 reward to encourage people to come forward with information after a number of raids involving cash machines in the county.
